I look after our public sector teams, but have a personal focus on local gov improvement, particularly the use of technology to improve adults’ and children’s services, and how we can help them do that.  Joined Futures as a junior in 2005 (!) and am really proud of what we have created together across all our business areas.

Out of work, I’m easily pleased.  Friends, family, holidays, pubs, football, food – no particular order, and any combination is good with me!

I’m a highly experienced Senior Specialist Consultant with a strong background in supporting the education sector. I work in close partnership with both Local Authorities and schools, and am known for my commitment to understanding individual needs. I take pride in delivering effective solutions, whether for short-term cover or more strategic, long-term support.

Passionate about connecting people with meaningful opportunities, I find great satisfaction in seeing the positive impact they make in driving improvement and change.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, running along the Leeds canal, discovering new places to eat, and escaping whenever I can to explore new destinations and experiences.

Hi, I’m James Brennan – a dedicated professional with a passion for driving meaningful change across public services. With extensive experience supporting local authorities, NHS organisations, and social care teams, I specialise in helping services make the most of their digital systems, processes, and people.

I’ve worked closely with over 100 organisations across the UK to deliver system implementations, unlock transformation programmes, and support frontline teams with practical, outcome-focused solutions. Whether it’s shaping strategy, leading delivery, or simply making complex challenges easier to navigate, I’m committed to making a positive difference.

I’m currently part of the team at Futures, where we work hand-in-hand with public sector partners to deliver real impact.

When I’m not working, you’ll find me playing football, exploring North Yorkshire or chasing my puppy Hendrix.

I’ve worked in interim recruitment for over a decade and joined Futures in January 2017. My role focuses on the Local Government sector, specifically within Children’s Services and Education.

During this time, I’ve supported a high number of top-tier councils by placing specialist professionals in interim roles, ranging from Assistant Officers, Case Officers and Managers to Heads of Service, Assistant Directors, and Consultants.

In my spare time, I write a lot of music for the video game industry and enjoy running. If I’m not doing either of these, I’ll probably be annoying my 2 cats!

As an Associate Consultant, I support local government organisations across the UK to get the most out of their digital systems, processes, and people – focusing mainly on social care and education services.

I work with teams to help improve how things run behind the scenes, making services more efficient, effective, and people-focused.

Outside of work, you’ll usually find me chasing after my toddler, being walked by the dog, or hiding with a good book and a brew. I’m a big believer in balance, so while I love a quiet moment, I’ll never say no to a good bottomless brunch!

As an Associate Consultant, I support local government organisations across the North, North West and North East of the UK, with a particular focus on Education and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

I work collaboratively with local authorities to deliver sustainable and effective solutions that improve outcomes for children, young people, and their families. I’m passionate about driving positive change within the education and SEND landscape and committed to supporting inclusive, high-quality services that make a real difference.

Outside of work, you will usually find me keeping active – I am big into my football, both playing and watching. I play for Ilkley Town FC and have played for the club since I was 5 years old. I also love spending time with family and friends, whether that’s a relaxed weekend together or a spontaneous trip away.

With over 20 years of experience in the Public Sector, I began my career in recruitment within the Health Sector before retraining as a Business Studies Teacher. I went on to spend several years working in both Post-16 and Secondary education, sharing my passion for learning and promoting education for all.

In 2022, I came full circle – returning to recruitment with Futures, where I now specialise in placing experienced professionals within the Public Sector. My background in both recruitment and education gives me a well-rounded perspective and a people-first approach to supporting both contractors and clients.

Outside of work, you’ll find me skiing in the winter, walking in the summer, or happily pottering around in the garden.
