Reports to: Managing Director

We are seeking a highly driven and strategic Head of Sales to lead the commercial function for this fast-paced, growth-oriented Consumer Goods business.

You will be responsible for setting and delivering the sales strategy across multiple channels, managing key customer relationships, and leading a team of account managers and sales professionals to drive sustainable, profitable growth.

This is a pivotal leadership role that combines strategic planning with hands-on commercial execution, requiring strong FMCG knowledge, retail customer experience, and excellent people leadership skills.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Develop and implement a robust national sales strategy aligned with overall business goals.
  • Identify and capitalise on new business opportunities across retail, wholesale, and e-commerce channels.
  • Forecast, plan, and deliver annual sales budgets, revenue targets, and margin goals.
  • Influence business planning with insight into shopper trends, category development, and retail landscapes.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the sales team, including National Account Managers, Field Sales, and Sales Support staff.
  • Drive a performance culture through coaching, KPIs, and clear objectives.
  • Support recruitment, training, and retention of high-performing sales talent.
  • Own and grow strategic relationships with major UK retailers (e.g. Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Amazon, Boots, etc.).
  • Lead high-level negotiations on pricing, promotions, terms, and joint business plans (JBPs).
  • Oversee customer-specific P&Ls, driving profitability and commercial effectiveness.
  • Work closely with Marketing, Category, Finance, Supply Chain, and NPD teams to deliver customer-focused solutions.
  • Ensure excellence in demand planning, promotional execution, and customer service.
  • Act as the voice of the customer internally to support innovation and service excellence.

What we’re looking for:

  • Minimum 7–10 years of experience in FMCG sales, including at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven success managing major retail accounts (grocery, high street, or e-commerce).
  • Strong track record of delivering sales growth and driving commercial strategies.
  • Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong financial acumen – able to manage budgets, margins, and commercial KPIs.
  • Experienced in leading, inspiring, and developing sales teams.
  • Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach.
  • Commercially astute and results-oriented.
  • Agile, adaptable, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passionate about FMCG and consumer behaviour.
