We are seeking a highly driven and strategic Head of Sales to lead the commercial function for this fast-paced, growth-oriented Consumer Goods business.
You will be responsible for setting and delivering the sales strategy across multiple channels, managing key customer relationships, and leading a team of account managers and sales professionals to drive sustainable, profitable growth.
This is a pivotal leadership role that combines strategic planning with hands-on commercial execution, requiring strong FMCG knowledge, retail customer experience, and excellent people leadership skills.
What you’ll be doing:
- Develop and implement a robust national sales strategy aligned with overall business goals.
- Identify and capitalise on new business opportunities across retail, wholesale, and e-commerce channels.
- Forecast, plan, and deliver annual sales budgets, revenue targets, and margin goals.
- Influence business planning with insight into shopper trends, category development, and retail landscapes.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the sales team, including National Account Managers, Field Sales, and Sales Support staff.
- Drive a performance culture through coaching, KPIs, and clear objectives.
- Support recruitment, training, and retention of high-performing sales talent.
- Own and grow strategic relationships with major UK retailers (e.g. Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Amazon, Boots, etc.).
- Lead high-level negotiations on pricing, promotions, terms, and joint business plans (JBPs).
- Oversee customer-specific P&Ls, driving profitability and commercial effectiveness.
- Work closely with Marketing, Category, Finance, Supply Chain, and NPD teams to deliver customer-focused solutions.
- Ensure excellence in demand planning, promotional execution, and customer service.
- Act as the voice of the customer internally to support innovation and service excellence.
What we’re looking for:
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in FMCG sales, including at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven success managing major retail accounts (grocery, high street, or e-commerce).
- Strong track record of delivering sales growth and driving commercial strategies.
- Excellent negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong financial acumen – able to manage budgets, margins, and commercial KPIs.
- Experienced in leading, inspiring, and developing sales teams.
- Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach.
- Commercially astute and results-oriented.
- Agile, adaptable, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Passionate about FMCG and consumer behaviour.
