Castleford is a town within the City of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, just to the south of the River Calder. It is the district’s only riverside market town with a rich heritage that stretches back to the Roman times, when Castleford has a key role both nationally and internationally.
Today, Castleford is slightly different. Castleford has been selected by the Government as one of 101 towns across England to take part in the application process of the Towns Fund. Following the £23.9m secured through the Towns Fund, they have developed and planned the delivery of the Town Investment Plan (TIP). This aims to deliver long-term economic and productivity growth through skills, connectivity and urban regeneration.
Castelford currently has a large FMCG base, being home to a Burberry factory and previously home to a large Nestle factory and Dunsoford and Wesley Textiles. Today, the town contains a Junction 32 multi-store outlet shopping village and Xscape leisure complex. Xscape is a large Snozone, which used to have Britain’s largest indoor real snow slope and a 14 screen Cineworld, providing a large number of jobs for the population of Castleford.
