About the role


We are searching for a Senior Database Administrator to join an organisation in Manchester, where you will use database management system software and tools to investigate and resolve incidents and collect performance statistics!

You will work with application developers, support staff and external software vendors to troubleshoot site-specific performance issues, escalating to developers for software fixes or implementing database improvements.

Your Responsibilities:
– Apply data analysis, data modelling, and quality assurance techniques to establish, modify or maintain data structures and associated components.
– Specify user/system interfaces, and translate logical designs into physical designs taking account of the target environment, performance requirements and existing systems.
– Liaise with external suppliers on matters relating to databases, including quality assurance of all work suppliers proposing to undertake on databases.
– Update the knowledge management database, to ensure it is accurate and up to date.
– Apply and maintain specific security controls and local risk assessments to maintain confidentiality, integrity and availability of business information systems.
– Contribute to vulnerability assessments – recognise when an IT network/system has been attacked internally, by a remote host, or by malicious code, such as a virus, worm or Trojan etc. or when a breach of security has occurred.

Your Skills and Qualifications:
– Relevant Database Certification in Oracle or SQL server.
– Degree or significant relevant experience within a similar role.
– Experience in resolving incidents, maximising availability and resilience of environments that incorporate relational multi-dimensional databases in Oracle or SQL server.
– Experience in carrying out routine configuration/installation and reconfiguration of databases and related products.
– Experience in using an incident management tool for recording, progressing and reporting of incidents.
– Knowledge of Continual Service Improvement and relevant database modelling and design tools.

You will be planning, monitoring and reporting against multiple targets and taking action to resolve unexpected incidents.
