About the role


Our client is looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor or Contracts Manager, most likely retired or close to retiring, for a part time quantity surveying / contracts checking role. The successful Quantity Surveyor / Contracts Manager will manage all contracts relating to construction and civil engineering projects for a number of sectors (commercial, defence, education, industrial, residential, retail, etc.) making sure all clauses and amendments to JCT contracts are fair to both parties. It is more important you are used to dealing with subcontractors than main contractors. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established company in a part time role, that won’t require any travel and will fit around your other commitments, whilst being interesting work for nice people.

Quantity Surveyor – Skills and Abilities – QS / Construction / Manufacturing / Commercial Manager / Contracts Manager

* Undertaking costs analysis for new projects and contracts
* Assisting in establishing a client’s requirements
* Performing risk and value management and cost control
* Identifying, analysing and developing responses to commercial risks
* Preparing and analysing costings for tenders
* Allocating work to subcontractors
* Providing advice on contractual claims
* Analysing outcomes and writing detailed progress reports
* Valuing completed work and arranging payments
* Maintaining awareness of the different building contracts in current use
* Understanding the implications of health and safety regulations
* Any other appropriate duties identified and allocated by management

Quantity Surveyor – Skills and Abilities – QS / Construction / Manufacturing / Commercial Manager / Contracts Manager

* Must have experience in working within a business supplying to construction
* Relevant academic qualification such as HND or degree would be an advantage as would professional membership
* Excellent product and technical knowledge and experience
* Must be computer literate with programming and planning experience using Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project
* Excellent knowledge and experience of JCT contracts and amendments
