About the role


We are currently working with a small but very successful niche manufacturer in Manchester City Centre, to support their growth they are looking to employ an Electronics Technician. We will consider both recently qualified with some practical skills through to fully experienced.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for the manufacture and maintenance of scientific instrumentation products specifically industrial tomography systems. Reporting to our production manager.

The assembly work requires operating to ISO9001 standards to build and test instruments from stocked sub-assemblies (enclosures, PCBs, cables, etc.) and specified parts. It also involves following test documentation to record test results, stock control and managing external subcontractor orders.

Maintenance work involves repairing faulty instruments, ensuring defects are found and rectified as close to the point of manufacture as possible and making sure corrective action is taken to prevent the recurrence of faults.

There is also opportunity for a design engineering role once full knowledge of instrument build has been completed. Improvements for existing products would include the sourcing of replacement/new parts, using electronic knowledge to redesign PCBs. Improvements for new product designs could involve sourcing, then testing new parts, producing documentation and transferring the design to manufacture.

Essential Qualifications/Skills/Experience

– Degree/ HND in electronic/ electrical and or computer engineering.
– The ability to work effectively in a team using good communication and interpersonal skills.

– Computer literate and able to use most Microsoft Windows based programs

– Experience in cable assembly.

– Experience in mechanical assembly.

– Experience in solder and reworking through-hole and surface mount components.

– Ability to read and understand schematic diagrams to test, build and diagnose faults on electronic circuits.

– Ability to use electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes multi- meters etc.) to test, build and diagnose faults down to component level.

– Ability to use various software packages to create PCB designs, do electronic circuit simulation and create drawings.

Advantageous but not essential skills

– Knowledge of the test standards set by the EEA needed to gain a CE mark including EMC.

– Experience of computer programming using C/C++ computer language.

– Knowledge of embedded PIC design.
