About the role


We are currently recruiting for a Design Manager for a well-respected Engineering business in the Kirklees area, a subsidiary of a large engineering group.

The Design Manager will be responsible for a team of 6 involved in Mechanical and Hydraulic Design for high-power installations. This may suit someone currently working in a Senior Design role who feels ready to take the next step!

Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
– A Degree in Mechanical Engineering
– Proven Mechanical and Hydraulic Design experience
– Proven Supervisory/management experience
– Able to Lead design concepts and prepare schemes
– Experience in working directly with clients to define technical requirements
– Strong commercial awareness
– Able to lead and motivate others

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
– Management of mechanical/hydraulic/electro-hydraulic design projects
– Engineering lead
– Liaison and support with sales and production departments as required.
– Close liaison with client and project team, understanding the scope of supply.
– Preparation of conceptual and scheme designs.
– Development of designs to satisfy technical specifications.
– Checking and approving drawings, documentation and design calculations of designers and other engineers within the team.
– Probable lead of design reviews and provision of engineering support to safety reviews (risk assessments).
– Ensure quality and delivery of design documentation throughout the design process including the scope of works, method statements, risk assessments, substantiation, technical files and other technical documentation to comply with design standards, safety legislation/regulatory requirements and the client’s needs.
– Allocation of work to other members of the team to ensure delivery of design to quality, time and budget.
– Selection, strategy and management of work to sub-contractors as required.
– Keep abreast of codes and standards that the company is working to.
