About the role


Our client is a long established manufacturer of capital equipment: Due to retirement they are seeking a professional and experienced Engineering Manager.
Role summary:
Overall responsibility and accountability for the Mechanical Engineering Design Team which will include people and budgetary management. Support the business and Board regarding business decisions related to Mechanical Product Design.
Tactical responsibility for implementing the Mechanical Engineering strategy and strategic operational goals to exceed company and customer expectations for product development, quality, cost and delivery, maximising efficiency, optimising and driving engineering excellence. Work closely with internal and external key stakeholders, project managers, manufacturing, sales and customers regarding technical support of their activities.
Ensure that the Mechanical Engineering function delivers the quality of service delivery, striving for best in class products and business practices to achieve the customers expectations, managing teams and projects across the business.
Provide clear leadership and vision, inspire and motivate staff to achieve excellence and mentor them as they develop new skills. Drive Key Performance Indicators across all areas of the Engineering function to ensure that all projects are delivered on cost and on time to the highest quality standards. Ensure Health, Safety and
Environmental issues are prioritised and facilitate, direct and drive implementation of the Operational Excellence Strategy and drive Continuous Improvement across all engineering related areas of the business.
The Engineering Manager is responsible for Design Managers, Project Engineers, Design Engineers, Draughts people and Technical Publications.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience:
Proven Engineering Manager Experience with demonstrable evidence of delivering progress via Design Management and Project (essential).
Project management skills (formal qualification and advantage)
Background in capital equipment, air handling, thermal plant or Industrial HVAC an advantage.
A proven track record in strategic engineering leadership delivering effective engineering strategies, policies, processes and systems.
Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Equipment Design Degree Bachelor (minimum), Masters (Desirable), or equivalent.
Experience of effectively using and coaching regarding Inventor 3D and Finite Element Analysis software.
Experience of working in a design for manufacturing, production and installation environment.
Fellow or Chartered Member of an industry related Professional Body (desirable)Attending meetings with customers to explain designs and take site measurements.
Developing specifications for purchased equipment.
Good budgetary skills
Awareness of European Design standards.
Safety first approach.
Effective in using MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Access and Visio.
