A critical and timely Procurement Policy Note (PPN) update has been released by the Government that will enable contracting authorities to direct award in order to procure goods, services and works with extreme urgency.
What is the update?
Under current exceptional circumstances following the outbreak of COVID-19, new guidance has been released by the Government. In response to these circumstances, public sector bodies require the ability to procure goods, services and works with urgency. Regulation 32(2)(c) permits them to do so under the Public Contract Regulations 2015 with immediate effect.
Who is the Procurement Policy Note applicable to?
This regulation is applicable to all contracting authorities. Contracting authorities include local authorities, NHS bodies, executive agencies, central government departments, non-departmental public bodies and the wider public sector.
The Public Sector Impact
Public sector companies may now direct award under this revised legislation where exceptional circumstances exist in order to maintain business as usual and to access goods, services and works quickly.
